Job Description

We are looking for friendly, energetic people who have the qualifications and skills that match today's opportunity.  The Corporate Accounting Department has an opening for a Loss Share Accountant.  This position is supports the bank in researching, analyzing, compiling, and reporting of financial information and filing of loss-share certificates in accordance with the bank’s regulatory agreements with the FDIC.   Washington Federal is proud of the high value that we all place on simply being nice when serving our co-workers and Washington Federal clients.

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • FDIC Loss share accounting:

    • Research, collect and compile activities and transactions for assets covered under the agreements;
    • Provide inter-department direction and guidance to ensure timely and accurate preparation and filing of monthly and quarterly certificates and loss share reports;
    • Research and review loan transactions, documents, and files as needed, to compile data required for reporting purposes;
    • Prepare or review loss and recovery calculations, including verification to supporting documents and system data;
    • Document and track FDIC loss share expenses by loan record;
    • Reconcile monthly activities and loan portfolio balances to general ledger and accounting records;
    • Reconcile FDIC indemnification receivable and clawback liability to general ledger and accounting records;
    • Direct communication with regulators, internal and external auditors, and management.
  • Daily/monthly accounting for Insurance subsidiary, including the preparation of management reports, financial statement and consolidating entries.
  • Other daily/monthly/quarterly accounting tasks as assigned.

Job Schedule

Full-time schedule; 40 hours per workweek.


A Bachelors degree and accounting experience are required. A CPA license and banking/financial institution experience with loan accounting background are strongly preferred. Applicant should have exposure to FDIC loss-share reporting and advanced skills with spreadsheets such as Excel. Excellent analytical, organizational and problem solving skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills will be essential.
